THE FOUR TYPES OF LISTENING

Empathic /Active listening: This is listening to understand the other person. It is used for example when someone shares a personal story. In this type of listening, you’re focused on the other person, instead of yourself; you are not listening to your mind chatter or thinking about what you are going to say.

Appreciative listening: This is listening for your own personal enjoyment. It is used for example when you are listening to music, a motivational speaker, or a religious sermon.
Comprehensive listening
This is listening to learn something. It is used for example when you are in class, at a conference, or listening to a podcast.

Critical listening: This is listening to form an opinion or make an argument. It is used for example during a debate or even a pitch sale.
