  4. Felt a racing heart, sweaty, trouble breathing, faint, or shaky in social situations
  5. Felt tense muscles, felt on edge or restless, or had trouble relaxing in social situations
  6. Avoided, or did not approach or enter, social situations
  7. Left social situations early or participated only minimally (e.g., said little, avoided eye contact)
  8. Spend a lot of time preparing what to say or how to act in social situations
  9. Distracted myself to avoid thinking about social situations.
  10. Needed help to cope with social situations (e.g., alcohol or medications, superstitious objects).

Modifying your negative thoughts about how others perceive you is fundamental for self-confidence to grow. To that end, the objective at this stage is to raise your awareness about those self-sabotaging thoughts and actively re-evaluate them

ADEQUATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communication is a dynamic phenomenon that requires constant adjustments. Learn how to be flexible and effective when communicating with others.

SOCIAL INTERACTION ANXIETY SCALE (SIAS)

INSTRUCTIONS:


For each item, please circle the number to indicate the degree to which you feel the statement is characteristic or true for you. The rating scale is as follows:

0 = Not at all characteristic or true of me.

1 = Slightly characteristic or true of me.

2 = Moderately characteristic or true of me.

3 = Very characteristic or true of me.

4 = Extremely characteristic or true of me.

  20. I am unsure whether to greet someone I know only slightly.

SCORING

Possible scores range from 0 to 80. Higher scores are associated with higher risk of social anxiety.
